Day 3 - Faith Family - What is the Church?
The church is a multifaceted entity with both a universal and local expression. Universally, the church refers to the body of believers worldwide who confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, regardless of denomination or tradition. It transcends geographical, cultural, and denominational boundaries, united by a common faith in Christ.
THE CHURCH
Locally, the church represents gatherings of believers in specific communities or congregations who come together for worship, fellowship, teaching, and service. It serves as a spiritual family where believers can grow in their faith, support one another, and collectively fulfill the mission of making disciples and spreading the gospel.
The church is not just a physical building or institution but a living organism empowered by the Holy Spirit to carry out God’s purposes on earth. It embodies the presence of Christ in the world and serves as a beacon of hope, love, and reconciliation.

FAITH FAMILY
At Turning Point one of the quickest and most beneficial steps forward on your faith journey is a regular presence in the worship gathering of the church. We refer to the church as our “Faith Family.”
Worship services provide a place where we can gather with our extended faith family. In those meetings we experience God together. We worship him. We pray to Him. We receive His Word. And we respond to Him in faith by obeying the direction we sense that He is leading our lives.
Experiencing God together is an important part of the development of our faith. The Scripture warns us not to take a casual approach in our commitment to come together with our faith family.
“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially not what the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25
This is not to say that we can not experience God in other places, like nature. Ultimately, God is omnipresent and can be encountered in any aspect of life for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. He meets us where we are and reveals Himself in ways that are personal and meaningful to each individual.
But there is something important and transformational about gathering together. The presence of one another builds our faith and when we participate in the gathering by singing, praying, and learning it motivates one another.
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” Hebrews 10:24

SPIRITUAL COMMUNITY
Faith family is a bigger gathering and it’s importance should not be underestimated. But we also need to find and commit to a smaller, “fun sized” community where we can be known and develop closer connections with other Christ followers. The Bible describes early believers meeting “house to house” Acts 2:46.
It does not matter if we are meeting a smaller number of believers in a home, or at a church building, or at Starbucks, or in a classroom on campus. The location is not important, what maters is that we have that more personal connection that can only come when we are willing to meet with people in smaller circles.
Across the church we have these kinds of smaller meetings that happen in many places. Children on Sunday mornings have time to sit in small circles and learn together. Our youth on Wednesday nights have group time with leaders who gather units of students in small huddles to discuss God’s truth and pray together. College students do the same in their gatherings. Adults have community groups. Men at Fight Club sit around tables so that they can have spiritual community. Spiritual community is an important step of connection let us help you connect.
