Day 5 - God’s Will - What does God Expect of Me?
GOD’S WILL FOR MY LIFE
The number one question we receive, and its not even close is, “what is God’s will for my life?” This is a question that has been on the heart of every person from the beginning of time. We all desire to know what God’s plan for our life really is supposed to be.
What we must understand as we begin our Journey of faith is that God has a general will for each and everyone of us. What does that mean? God’s general will refers to the overarching principles, values, and commands that God has revealed in Scripture and through the teachings of Jesus Christ. It encompasses things like loving God and loving others, living a life of integrity, seeking justice, showing compassion, and striving for holiness. These are universal principles applicable to all believers. God’s primary concern for us, what He expects of us is to live our lives according to his commands.
While God’s general will provides a moral and ethical framework for how Christians are called to live, there’s room within that framework for individuals to exercise their own discernment and make decisions about specific aspects of their lives. However, the ideal is for our individual desires to align with God’s general will. This means seeking to make choices that are consistent with biblical principles and that contribute to the fulfillment of God’s purposes in the world.
Sometimes, our specific will may conflict with God’s general will, leading to tension or uncertainty. In such cases, Christians are encouraged to seek God’s guidance through prayer, reflection on Scripture, seeking wise counsel, and being open to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, the goal is to surrender our individual desires to God’s will, trusting that His plans are ultimately for our good and for the advancement of His kingdom.

STANDING STRONG
As a new believer we must be prepared to face temptations of returning to old ways and habits. Ways that we used to behave and believe before we came to Christ. Facing temptation as a new believer can be challenging, but there are several steps you can take to navigate these situations:
KNOW THE WORD OF GOD
Study the Bible regularly to understand God’s principles and teachings. Scripture provides guidance on how to overcome temptation and live a life pleasing to God.
PRAYER
Develop a consistent prayer life. Pray for strength, wisdom, and discernment when facing temptation. Ask God for help to resist temptation and to guide you through difficult situations.
COMMUNITY
Surround yourself with fellow believers who can offer support, encouragement, and accountability. Being part of a community of faith can provide strength and help you stay grounded in your commitment to follow Christ.
AVOID TEMPTING SITUATIONS
Whenever possible, avoid situations or environments where you know you’ll be tempted. This may involve making changes to your routine or lifestyle to remove sources of temptation.
REPLACE NEGATIVE HABITS WITH POSITIVE ONES
Identify areas of weakness and develop healthy habits to replace negative ones. For example, if you struggle with a particular sin, find constructive ways to occupy your time and redirect your energy.
STAY ALERT AND VIGILANT
Be mindful of your thoughts, emotions, and surroundings. Temptation often begins subtly, so it’s important to stay vigilant and recognize warning signs before they escalate.
LEAN ON THE HOLY SPIRIT
Rely on the power of the Holy Spirit to help you overcome temptation. Allow the Spirit to guide and empower you in your daily life.
SEEK HELP WHEN NEEDED
Don’t hesitate to seek help from a pastor, mentor, or counselor if you’re struggling with temptation. Sometimes, talking to someone can provide valuable perspective and support.
PRACTICE FORGIVENESS
If you do give in to temptation, remember that God is gracious and forgiving. Confess your sins, ask for forgiveness, and seek to learn from your mistakes, trusting in God’s mercy and grace to help you grow.
Remember that overcoming temptation is a process, and it’s okay to stumble along the way. The key is to persevere in your faith, relying on God’s strength and guidance to help you overcome challenges and grow in spiritual maturity. It is understanding that we our lives with a progress over perfection focus. Meaning we know that God sent Jesus because he knew we would fail, but when we fail we can continue to move forward progressing in our faith realizing we will not reach perfection until we are one day united with Christ in heaven.
