FRESH START CHALLENGE

Do not remember the past events, pay no attention to things of old. Look, I am about to do something new; even now it is coming.”

Isaiah 43:18-19a, HCSB

A fresh start is appealing for a lot of reasons. But one of the more compelling motives about beginning anew, is the freedom to leave behind whatever mistakes, regrets, or shortcomings that have defined you. As you have turned to follow Jesus, you’re now stepping in a new direction. From this point forward, you can give yourself permission to focus on what lies ahead. A wise saying from the Old Testament draws our attention onward: “The end of a matter is better than its beginning...” (Ecclesiastes 7:8). That statement is encouraging us to take up this fresh start with God and devote our energy towards a new finish line, a fresh vision of what our life can be in Christ. As the Apostle Paul put it: “God is beckoning us onward – to Jesus. I’m off and running and I’m not turning back. (Philippians 3:14, Message).

Whether you are a first-time believer or someone who is rebooting your faith life, these first steps will be incredibly beneficial in providing you a clear and effective pathway for building a life of living as a new person, with new hope, new purpose, walking in new ways.

…anyone who belongs to Christ has become a person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (2 Corinthians 5:17, NLT)

WHAT TO EXPECT

On any new journey it is impossible to feel confident about where we are heading without clear directions and knowing the mile markers ahead so we can arrive at our destination with confidence. What makes the journey more enjoyable is when we are joining someone who has already been where we would like to go. That is why you can choose to walk through this journal on your own or you can sign up for a mentor to walk with you as you work through this journal.

The fresh start journal will help you identify the key mile markers that lie ahead on your exciting journey of faith.

The following are key concepts that will mark your journey

ASSURANCE - WHAT JUST HAPPENED?

You responded to receive Jesus, and we want to help you be sure and confident that you’ve taken a salvation step.

In this section, we will help you discover what salvation is and what it means to be kept by the Lord. You will be given a clear explanation of salvation and what the Bible says about assurance.

NEXT STEPS -WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?

In this section, we will address some of the “first things” you should prioritize in your commitment to follow Jesus. These are mile markers that you will want to address to help you get off to a successful start. We will explain the first steps of making Jesus Lord, the act of surrender through baptism and how to tell somebody of your new found faith by expressing your life-change story.

FAITH FAMILY - WHAT IS CHURCH?

We continue our journey together in this section by addressing the purpose of the church. We will look to address that the church is a people, not a building, and the importance of Christian relationships. We will discover how we can experience God in many places, yet understand the discipline and blessing of showing up to be a part of the church community.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH - HOW CAN I BE A STRONG CHRISTIAN?

Just like it takes exercise to build up our muscles and keep ourselves healthy, so too we need to look at proper training to keep us spiritually fit. In this section, we will look at the importance of spiritual practices, “workouts” that will produce enduring faith.

Practical teaching will be focused on the topics of prayer, bible reading, exercising our faith and the prioritizing of others and service.

GOD’S WILL- WHAT DOES GOD EXPECT OF ME?

We all wrestle with the question, 'What is God’s plan for my life?' We all desire to know who we are and what we were created for. We will explore how to obtain guidance for your life and what it means to walk in freedom. We will explore important insights into overcoming temptation in our lives and what it means to learn to live life with a focus on progress over perfection.
